One is silver and the other gold

I bought a bottle of Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper at the gas station today. My objective, blind taste tests led me to the conclusion that it tastes just like... Diet Dr. Pepper. Who knew?

I never knew such a thing existed.
Also, indeed, one would think that the carbonic acid and fake prune juice would o'erwhelm any other attempted flavor infusion.

Aside from, oh, I don't know, caster oil (which I've actually never tried, but it sounds repulsive), I can't think of any drink I loath more than Dr. Pepper. Especially Diet Dr. Pepper. I can't stand Cola's anyway, but in my little world, Dr. Pepper is the epitomy of disgusting. I can only imagine what cherry vanilla tastes like. (I think my dislike for the drink stems from the early days of my childhood. It's the only soda my mom drank, and I used to sneak swigs of it when I was about nine. Incidentally, Double Stuffed Oreos are the only cookies she'd buy, and I can't stand those, either.) My dad really likes that lemon and lime Coke. I tried it last year, and thought it, too, was pretty gross. I guess I'm just not into carbonation. I'll simply have to get my caffeine the old-fashioned way--through coffee and chocolate.

The question remains: Why?
